We had to get this one out quickly. Driven by a healthy mix of time pressure (other projects like KREISKY also need to press ahead) and the need to build on the wave of support the band received in the wake of their critically acclaimed debut album “Chapter Done”, MORD have been intent to take the direct approach. Six months from beginning to end and now the vinyl LP in the stores!
With this new LP, MORD has succeeded in capturing the overflowing energy and carefree insanity of their live performances, in the studio. Less hard walls, more Beefheart as one might expect, but always with an element of pop. This LP captures the band wrestling with their need for experimentation, improvisation and open minded traditionalism as well as working between freeform noise adventures and well crafted songs. “Fun Fun Fun” has a feel of the 60’s but is right here, right now. Sounds which are as clean as glass one moment then as wired as 8 litres of black coffee the next, one thing stands out: it’s all a big, mad blast.
The approach to the LP was refined throughout the course of the production – if it didn’t work, it was thrown out. Signposts were put in place, adventure was encouraged. In two intense weekend sessions the band came in and worked on their raw improvised material essentially live. Recently one fan excitedly shouted out after a MORD gig: “Music is dead, long live MORD!” Was this just an over excited beer induced chant? We don’t think so!

Es musste schnell gehen dieses Mal. Angetrieben durch eine Mischung aus gesundem, selbstauferlegtem Zeitdruck – andere Projekte wie KREISKY wollen schließlich auch vorangetrieben werden – und dem Schwung, den die Band auch durch die positive Rezeption des Debüt-Albums „Chapter Done“ erhielt, war man versessen darauf, neues Material zu produzieren und alsbald zu veröffentlichen. Nur knapp ein halbes Jahr sollte es vom initialen Aufwärmen bis zum finalen Ausrollen der fertigen Vinylscheibe dauern.
Mit “Fun Fun Fun“ ist es MORD gelungen, die Charakteristik, die übersprudelnden Momente und den waghalsigen Wahnsinn ihrer Konzerte ein Stück weit einzufangen und auf das Studioalbum zu übertragen. Weniger Beton, mehr Beefheart als erwartet, dabei immer wieder Pop, zeigt das Album den aktuellen Stand der Band zwischen Experimentier- und Improvisationssucht und undogmatischem Traditionalismus, zwischen freien Geräuscheskapaden und fein arrangierten Songs. „Fun Fun Fun“ ist irgendwie Sixties, aber doch hier und heute. Da sind Sounds, clean wie Glas oder aber abgedreht wie acht Liter Kaffee, doch vor allem und eh klar: ein großer, schöner, verrückter Spaß.
Erprobte Arbeitsweisen wurden im Zuge der Produktion verfeinert, nicht funktionierende einfach über Bord geworfen. Vorzeichen wurden bewusst gesetzt, Wagnisse eingegangen. In zwei Wochenend-Sessions spielte die Band das zuvor relativ roh ausformulierte bzw. aus Improvisationsbrocken geformte Material größtenteils live ein.
